Demeter Matcha: From Tencha to Your Brand
One supply base, three grades — Regular (RM), Europe Standard (EM) and Organic (OM) — all built on 100% Tencha, constant-temperature cold grinding below 40°C, and full USDA + EU organic certification. A complete matcha raw-material solution for importers, brands and private-label builders.
Why Tencha & Cold Grinding Decide Quality
Matcha is not ground tea — it is ground Tencha, a specially shaded leaf. How the leaf is grown and how gently it is milled determines the color, the umami and what survives into your finished product. We control both at the source.
Shade-Grown Tencha
Leaves shaded for weeks to lift chlorophyll and L-theanine (umami).
De-stem & De-vein
Only the tender leaf blade becomes Tencha — never stems or veins.
Cold Grinding <40°C
Stone/constant-temp milling protects color, aroma and actives.
Graded & Packed
Sorted into RM / EM / OM and packed bulk-to-retail.
What cold grinding protects
- Vivid green color — chlorophyll is heat-sensitive; low-temperature milling keeps the iconic jade tone instead of browning.
- L-theanine (umami) — the amino acid behind matcha’s smooth, non-bitter taste.
- Polyphenols & aroma — volatile notes preserved rather than scorched off.
What that means for buyers
- Consistent color batch to batch — critical for retail and latte formats.
- No bitter, burnt off-notes in beverages and bakery.
- A defensible quality story you can print on the pack.
- One milling standard applied across RM / EM / OM.
RM · EM · OM — Pick the Right Matcha
Every Demeter matcha starts from the same Tencha and cold-grinding process. The grade is defined by the certification and screening depth your market requires — so you pay only for what your channel needs.
What We Verify — So You Clear Customs
For EU and US bound matcha, documentation decides whether a container sails through or sits at the port. Our EM and OM lines ship with the paperwork importers actually ask for.

Questions Importers Actually Ask
Ceremonial vs culinary grade — what is the difference?
Culinary grade is milled from later-harvest or less-shaded leaf and suited to baking, blends and beverages where price and robustness matter. Ceremonial grade uses premium Tencha with higher L-theanine and a smoother, less-bitter profile for drinking. We label by intended use so you pick the right cost/quality point.
USDA vs EU Organic — do I need both?
If you sell in the US, USDA NOP is what matters; in the EU, EU Organic (2018/848) is required. Our OM line carries both, so a single SKU clears either market without re-certification.
What does “666+ pesticide scan” mean for EU imports?
It means each EM batch is screened against a broad multi-residue panel (well beyond the minimum legal list), backed by a Eurofins/SGS COA. The practical benefit is smoother customs clearance and lower rejection risk at the border.
Is your matcha 100% Tencha or blended with other tea?
Our matcha is 100% Tencha — the shade-grown, de-stemmed leaf proper to matcha. We do not cut it with bancha or other green-tea grades, which is what keeps the color and umami consistent.
How do you preserve color and L-theanine (umami)?
Two levers: shade-growing raises chlorophyll and L-theanine in the leaf, and constant-temperature cold grinding below 40°C prevents the heat browning and aroma loss that ordinary milling causes.
What packaging formats and MOQ for private label?
We support stick packs, sachets, tins, aluminium bags and bulk, with OEM/Artwork service. MOQ depends on format — stick/sachet retail runs differ from bulk. Confirm current MOQ with our sales team.
Cold grinding — why does temperature matter?
Matcha pigment and aroma are heat-sensitive. Milling above ~40°C browns the powder and scorches volatile notes; our constant-temp process holds the line so the jade color and umami survive into your finished product.
Can matcha go into clear beverages?
Yes for color, but expect a natural suspension — matcha is an insoluble powder, so clear drinks will show a fine green settle unless you use a stabilizer or cloudy base. That is normal and physical, not a defect.
What is the shelf life and how should it be stored?
Typically 12–18 months in cool, dark, low-humidity conditions, ideally with oxygen/absorber in retail packs. Light, heat and air are the enemies of color — advise consumers to keep the tin closed and away from sunlight.
Do you provide COA, heavy-metal and microbe testing?
Yes. Qualified batches ship with COA; heavy metals (Pb/As/Cd/Hg) and microbiology are verified per food specification. Third-party COA from Eurofins/SGS is available on the EM and OM lines.
What about lead-content compliance?
Lead is monitored against the relevant food limits for each destination market. Request the specific limit and batch result in your COA; we screen to published food-grade specifications.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
Bulk RM/EM typically start at commercial quantities; OM retail formats vary by pack. Current MOQ and lead time are confirmed with our sales team at quotation.
