The Core Problem

Why Standard Curcumin Hardly Works

Curcumin is a hydrophobic molecule. Taken as a plain powder, most of it is conjugated and excreted by the gut and liver before it can act — published pharmacokinetic studies report systemic availability of raw curcumin around 1% or less. Formulation, not dose, decides how much actually arrives.

What the literature shows

  • 2 g of pure curcumin → plasma levels often undetectable by standard HPLC.
  • Rapid glucuronidation & sulfation in intestine and liver.
  • Half-life in buffer ~10 minutes at physiological pH.
  • Result: high dose, low systemic exposure, wasted active.

Delivery Routes

Five Ways to Beat the Absorption Barrier

Each route improves curcumin delivery through a different mechanism. Liposomal sits at the intersection of high loading, clean-label positioning and water-dispersibility for finished product formats.

Standard 95% powder Direct powder Lowest cost; poor and variable absorption.

Buyer FAQ

Questions Formulators Actually Ask

Turmeric vs curcumin — what is the difference?

Turmeric is the root of Curcuma longa; curcumin is the yellow bioactive compound inside it. Raw turmeric is only ~2–6% curcumin, so a standardized 95% extract delivers a predictable, concentrated dose.

Why is 95% curcuminoids measured by HPLC, not UV?

UV absorbance reads all curcuminoid-family chromophores and can over-state potency. HPLC separates and quantifies the individual actives, giving the defensible number buyers audit against.

What does “liposomal” actually mean here?

Curcuminoids are encapsulated inside phospholipid vesicles. The lipid shell protects them from gut/liver breakdown and carries them into the lymphatic system, improving delivery versus a bare powder.

Loading 50% vs 70% — which should I pick?

70% gives more active per gram (smaller capsule, lower freight) but is denser to formulate; 50% is easier to blend and disperse. Choose by your dose target and format constraints.

How much more bioavailable is the liposomal form?

Published studies place liposomal curcumin at roughly 5–10× the plasma exposure of raw powder. We present category reference data, not a product-specific multiple.

Can liposomal curcumin go into clear drinks?

No — at functional strength it forms a stable opaque “milky” emulsion. That opacity is physical proof of the lipid bilayer. For clear beverages, consider micellar or water-dispersible grades.

Do I still need piperine with the liposomal form?

Not for absorption — the vesicle already bypasses first-pass metabolism. Piperine is a separate lever; combining it adds cost and drug-interaction considerations.

What is the MOQ and lead time?

Standard grades typically start at 1 kg for sampling and 25 kg for commercial orders. Confirm current MOQ and lead time with our sales team.

Do you provide COA and heavy-metal testing?

Yes. Every batch ships with COA; heavy metals are verified by ICP-MS (Pb ≤ 2 ppm, As ≤ 1 ppm). Full TDS available on request.

Is it suitable for vegan / clean-label formulas?

The liposomal system uses food-grade phospholipids with no synthetic emulsifiers, supporting clean-label and vegan positioning. Confirm phospholipid source (sunflower vs soy) per grade.
