Food Grade Malt Powder Barley Malt Extract Powder for Bakers Brewers and Beverage Blenders

Short Description:

This malt powder is made from malt as raw material, with food additive protease added. It is produced through screening, crushing, saccharification, filtration, concentration, drying and packaging processes. It is widely used in various food products.

Food Grade Ingredient

Barley Malt Extract Powder

Begin with barley that has already been germinated. Mill it, hold it in warm water until its own enzymes turn starch into sugar, then filter, evaporate and dry whatever comes through. That is the entire product. A protease goes in at the saccharification step, which is why the solution runs clear and the protein load stays low. Nothing is added afterwards, so the sugars, the colour and the malty nose all come from the grain.

What Sets This Lot Apart

01

One Grain In, One Powder Out

Malted barley goes through the line and powder comes off it. One raw material, one route, and no starch hydrolysis step.

02

Clearer in Solution

The protease step is the reason drinks and brews stay free of haze after packing.

03

A Processing Aid, Not an Ingredient

The protease does its work during saccharification and is not carried into your ingredient list.

04

Colour You Can Plan Around

A light amber band keeps bakery runs and beverage batches lined up with each other.

05

Label Paperwork Ready

A gluten declaration is prepared for EU, UK, US and Australian label reviews.

06

Trial Before Bulk

1 kg foil bags let you run a bench batch before the first pallet is booked.

How It Performs in a Recipe

01

Feeding the Ferment

The sugars in the extract are available to yeast straight away, so a dough or a wort starts working without an extra sugar addition on the sheet.

02

Colour and Crust

Reducing sugars react with free amino acids in the oven. That reaction builds crust colour and toasted notes that plain sucrose will not deliver.

03

Building the Flavour

The extract carries the aroma compounds formed during kilning. It rounds out a malt note in drinks, confectionery and coated cereals.

04

Texture and Moisture

In baked goods it holds water and slows staling. In soft candy it keeps sugar from crystallising, which protects the bite through shelf life.

Where Blenders Put It

Malt extract powder in bakery
Malt extract powder in beverages

Bread, Crackers and Malt Loaf

Added at roughly 1 to 5% of flour weight. More gives a deeper crust; less keeps the crumb pale.

Malted Milk and Cocoa Drinks

Spooned straight into a dry blend. Full solubility means no lumping and no separate dispersion stage on the line.

Beer, Stout and Distilling Wash

Lifts gravity and adds malt character while leaving the mash schedule untouched, since the standard grade carries no live amylase.

Candy, Nougat and Malt Balls

Contributes colour and a rounded malt sweetness, and holds back crystallisation in soft centres.

Granola, Bars and Cereal Coating

Works as a binder and a flavour carrier in clusters and coatings, and helps the finished piece stay crisp.

Supply Chain & Services

Malt extract packing

Bulk and Sampling

25 kg paper bags with a PE liner as the standard unit, palletised for export. Small orders move as 1 kg foil bags so a buyer can qualify the grade first.

Malt extract OEM

Private Label Work

Bag print, lot coding and label wording handled in house for approved accounts, including a target colour band where your process needs one fixed.

Malt extract documents

The Paper Trail

COA with the physical, contaminant and microbiological data, plus TDS, SDS, allergen statement and GMO declaration. These are the files a label review asks for.

Malt extract transport

Getting It There

Sea or air to your port, papers closed before the container sails. Because the powder picks up moisture, bags ship sealed and pallets stay wrapped.

Practical Questions, Answered

Malt powder, malt extract, maltodextrin: which one is this?+

This is malt extract, CAS 8002-48-0. Maltodextrin is a different material altogether: it is made by hydrolysing starch, carries CAS 9050-36-6 and has no malt flavour. Ground malted barley is a third thing, and it does not dissolve.

What does the protease actually do?+

It is dosed while the mash is converting, breaking part of the protein into smaller pieces. The practical result is a solution that stays clear rather than throwing haze, and less protein carried into the finished drink. It acts as a processing aid, not as an ingredient.

Do I need a gluten warning on my label?+

Almost certainly yes. Barley sits in Annex II of EU 1169/2011 as a cereal containing gluten. Four barley derivatives are exempt, and malt extract is not one of them. The same logic runs through UK, US and Australian rules, so plan for a declaration rather than hoping to avoid one.

Can you supply a diastatic grade instead?+

Yes, to order. The standard grade is non-diastatic because the drying step leaves little enzyme activity behind, which suits brewers and blenders who only want sugar, colour and flavour. If your bakery process needs active amylase, say so at enquiry and we quote the diastatic option.

Will the colour hold from lot to lot?+

Close, but never identical. Kilning and the crop decide the band, so the powder lands in the same light amber range rather than at one fixed number. If your line needs a tighter target, say so at enquiry and we quote a fixed colour band.
